Qualifications:Two-year degree preferred, a high school diploma or equivalent along with technical certification(s) and/or technical degree, along with work experience required. Minimum of one year of experience with mechanical systems and equipment, medical devices or medical products highly preferred. Experience in product design, print creation (GD&T), prototyping, design for manufacturability a must.

Essential experience and skills:

  • Proficient in 3D CAD and understanding of mechanical principals.
  • Understanding of GD&T.
  • Possesses strong hands-on ability with good mechanical aptitude.
  • Able to react to situations with a “Sense of Urgency”.
  • Computer proficient, including intermediate level understanding of Microsoft Office, Pro-Engineer and SolidWorks.
  • Multi-task oriented, team player and able to prioritize tasks.
  • Excellent, professional written and oral communication skills.
  • Self-motivated with a strong sense of ownership in areas of responsibility.
  • Well-organized with good analytical and time management skills.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

The CAD Drafter (Drafter) will work with a cross functional team (surgeons, sales, marketing, engineering, and manufacturing) to design innovative instrumentation and surgical implants.  The Drafter will assist with concept development, product design, validation and product launch.  Along with management and the engineering staff, the Drafter will be responsible for various aspects of product development including mechanical design, materials procurement, feasibility, prototype fabrication, testing, wetlab testing, and product launch.  This is an opportunity for a creative, hardworking individual to see his/her ideas come to fruition in a market place that helps people lead a higher quality of life.

Duties and Responsibilities also include:

  • Participate in the mechanical design and development of various surgical implants and instrumentation.
  • Work with Project Engineers to design and update prints.
  • Update drawings trough Engineering Change Orders (ECO).
  • Complete sheet metal design and layouts for implant/instrument cassettes.
  • Evaluates and optimizes existing manufacturing processes.
  • Illustrate systems from specifications, course control drawings, sketches, models, prototypes or verbal instructions.
  • Interface with vendors to evaluate new manufacturing equipment, analytical equipment, and/or processes for use in manufacturing.
  • Performs, oversees, and documents optimization experiments, tests, and data collection efforts to validate new manufacturing equipment and procedures.
  • Evaluates current production capabilities and recommends improvements.
  • Provides technical support to product development with regard to manufacturing process design, transfer, and validation.
  • Interfaces with Quality Assurance/Quality Control to assure products and processes comply with all required regulations.
  • Maintains up to date knowledge with respect to relevant state-of-the-art technology, equipment, and/or systems.
  • Additional duties as assigned.
